Today’s post is from Springboarder Ben Hall, fresh back from speaking at a conference in Norway but finding his blogging inspiration from the Canadian F1. Who knew race car driving could teach us so much?!

This weekend saw an incident packed Canadian F1 grand prix race. It had everything with Jenson Button winning in specular style. After watching the race I had a question: what can startups learn from the incidents that happened?
Here’s how I see it.
- F1: While Hamilton and Button are team-mates at McLaren, they managed to clash early on ruling Hamilton out of the race. Hamilton
remained a team player, celebrating the win at the end.
- Startup: Passionate team members sometimes clash. The best teams put it to one side and focus on the end-goal of winning.
- F1: The race was red-flagged due to the amount of rain. This caused a lengthy delay resulting in a loss of monument and focus.
- Startup: No matter what’s going on around you, stay focus on your role, your responsibility and your end-goal.
- F1: At one point in the race, Jenson was way back in 19th position.
- Startup: No matter how far you fall behind, you can still win.
- F1: Jenson was in 2nd place at the start of the last lap, overtaking after Vettel made a mistake in the final moments.
- Startup: Keep pushing, keep trying, keep working. Your competitors are human too, if they make a mistake be ready to take advantage.
- F1: My twitter stream was full with everyone congratulating Button
- Startup: Win and everyone will love you.
- F1: Due to the delay it was the longest F1 race in history.
- Startup: It take’s a long time to win.
- F1: Button ended the race under investigation regarding another racing incident which could result in disqualification.
- Startup: You haven’t won until the money is in the bank.
